Managing Director
Jeff brings over fifteen years professional experience in business development, marketing, project leadership and account management to Borealis. Jeff worked with both a global Fortune 500 company and a leading Canadian cellulose ethanol firm before launching his own consulting practice. Most recently, he supported the development of sustainable and community-based fruit (acai) harvesting in the upper Amazon.
Jeff is focussed on building Borealis brand, market position, strategic partnerships and customer relationships.
Jeff is a mechanical engineer from the University of Western Ontario and holds and MBA with specialisation in management consulting from Royal Roads University in Victoria. Jeff has worked with clients across North America and in Brazil and has lived in Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, Australia and New Zealand. Jeff lives with his wife and two children in Toronto.
Director of Forestry
Denis is a Professional Forester with eighteen years experience in forest management and resource analysis. Denis began his career as a silviculture forester on BC’s west coast before migrating to Prince George as a resource analyst supporting land use and policy decisions. Denis joined one of Western Canada’s leading natural resource management consultancies as a senior consultant in 1997, becoming Prince George Branch Manager in 2003.
Denis leads the technical aspects of Borealis’ projects to establish healthy and bio-diverse forest ecosystems that reliably absorb carbon and store it for the long term.
Denis holds a BSc. in Forest Management from the University of New Brunswick and is a Registered Professional Forester. He has been a director of the Prince George Chamber of Commerce and served as a director of the McGregor Model Forest. He is a past member of the national board of directors of the Canadian Institute of Forestry and a long term member of the Cariboo Section. Denis lives with his partner, Cindy, in Prince George.
Director of Operations
Duane first came to Northern British Columbia from Saskatchewan to plant trees in 1991 and joined the north’s largest reforestation and silviculture firm in 1995, becoming CEO in 2006 and over-seeing the annual planting of over 12 million trees by nearly 700 workers. He brings over ten years experience in forest health, silviculture and reforestation to Borealis as well as considerable skills in operations management and logistics.
Duane guides Borealis’ project delivery and afforestation operations.
Duane holds a B.Sc. from the University of Saskatchewan. When not coaching hockey, he is active with the Prince George Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Federation of Independent Businesses. Duane lives in Prince George with his wife and two children.
Finance Director
Dean is a chartered accountant with nearly 30 years experience and is the founding partner of Northern British Columbia’s largest independent accounting, audit and advisory firm.
As Finance Director, Dean brings his considerable experience to Borealis in project finance and the long term financial protection of carbon stocks. Dean also focuses on ensuring the long term financial health of Borealis as a measure to guarantee the permanence of our offsets.
A pillar of the community in Prince George, Dean works with several museums and cultural institutions and is involved in numerous civic improvement initiatives. He lives and works with his wife, Judy, in Prince George.
Director of Cultural Heritage
Frank is an archaeologist and anthropologist with fifteen years experience in archaeology and cultural resource management in British Columbia and the United Kingdom. Frank has contributed significantly to the preservation of First Nations cultural history in British Columbia, including the recent discovery of a site over 10,000 years old. Frank is a founding partner and director of an innovative and growing archaeology and cultural resource management firm with offices and operations across Northern British Columbia.
Frank applies his significant experience to ensure the protection and preservation of First Nations cultural heritage during Borealis’ afforestation project development.
Frank holds a BA in archaeology and anthropology from the University of British Columbia and is a Registered Professional Consulting Archaeologist. Born and raised in BC’s interior, Frank lives with his wife (also an archaeologist) and two children in Vanderhoof, BC.
Director of External Affairs
Ken is a Professional Agrologist with over 30 years experience providing advisory services in socio-economics and natural resource policy to government ministries, businesses and First Nations.
Ken provides Borealis with support on issues relating to public policy, agriculture, land use and bio-diversity.
Ken has a BSc in agriculture economics from the University of British Columbia. He is a past president of the BC Institute of Agrologists and a member of the BC Forest Appeals Commission and the BC Environmental Appeal Board. Born in the BC mountains, he returns to them when he can to ski and hike. Ken lives in Prince George with his wife, Susan.
